Modernizing the Metrology Technical Library

Virtual collaboration. Remote access to organizational knowledge. The need for rapid information communication. The Navy faces these challenges every day, and with many diverse types of data.

CHALLENGE:

The NAVAIR metrology calibration program provides access to literally thousands of commercial technical documents required by the Fleet and Navy laboratories to keep sensitive equipment operational. Until recently, these documents were dispersed in multiple locations, so time was lost tracking and locating the data, let alone obtaining a copy.

SOLUTION:

McKean has helped consolidate the library documents to a centralized facility, resulting in time-savings. But more than that, McKean has created a database that provides visibility into which documents are available, further improving the search time. Over a thousand records are already included in the application, and it continues to grow. More importantly, McKean has identified options for digitizing the library that will create real time accessibility for the Fleet, including using state of the art scanners, and then placing the documents on an existing NAVAIR secure server.

SUCCESS:

In the end, the migration will both provide rapid information access and will use current infrastructure thus reducing total cost of migration to NAVAIR.
