CHALLENGE:
Setting up engine control systems on U.S. Navy ships has historically been accomplished by manufacturers. Considering the complexity of equipment onboard, this is no easy task.
SOLUTION:
For LSD 41 and 49 Class ships, the McKean team was tasked to convert manufacturer recommendations for Integrated Propulsion Plants into documentation that would become the Fleet standard for setting up these systems. Our team did not stop with the documentation effort, however. We validated the processes ourselves, by piloting them onboard. Based on our analyses, we also identified the optimum planning cycles for the maintenance effort.
SUCCESS:
The result? Turnover of these systems was easier, and the long-range maintenance efforts will be more efficient.
